Q-Ball, Four-before,and Home Draw Poker Games

As we all know, draw poker is a simple yet exciting game to play. Though it is now a big-money game when played in many casinos, players can play it too as a home game involving small bets. But draw poker suits well with lowball variants so two of the popular lowball variants of poker are presented below namely Four-before lowball and Q-Ball.

Four-before

Four-before is another variation that may be used to traditional draw poker games, but this variation is more suited in lowball games. On the first deal, a card dealer deals each player four cards. Then follows the betting round, A betting round follows, then each player picks another card as he disposes one bringing his entire cards to five. Finally, the last round of betting begins afterwards the showdown. Take note that it is next to impossible to obtain a "pat" hand (meaning getting a flush or straight hand) prior to a draw.

Q-Ball

Michael Wiesenberg designed this lowball draw game that combines several draw poker variations. Q-Ball is normally played using three blinds (a blind for the card dealer, one blind to a player seated on his left side and two blinds to the player seated two chairs away from the dealer's left. A single joker is added to the deck to be utilized. Players are given three cards then, the initial round of betting starts with the player seated left of the dealer (big blind). He then can call the dealer (big blind), raise the bet or fold which option he prefers (no checking is allowed during the initial round).

Next, every player is dealt his then a second betting round begins with the active player to the card dealer's left making the first bet. Checking of cards is still not permitted in this round, even though the first player is faced with no bet and still he must choose whether to open or to fold. Next, the fifth card is dealt to each player, followed by the third round of betting wherein the player seated on the left side of the dealer doing the first act.

At this time, checking is permitted. Finally, every player draws similar to a traditional draw poker; afterward the final betting then showdown ensues using the Ace-5 low hand values.

Q-Ball when played with fixed limit bet, it is highly recommended that players use the 1-2-2-4 betting structure; to be exact, the second and the third round of betting must permit a bet of double the amount called on its first round, also the last bet should permit 4x the total of the initial round.

"Home" games

These draw games are rather leisurely games which are normally played at home with small stakes involve. Since home games are treated socially rather than competitive are non factors to limit home games to be more of a skill play.
